Be careful what you say, it can easily be misconstrued.
After initially expressing anticipation about facing Caitlin Clark in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament, West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg has clarified his remarks, distancing himself from any intention of trash-talking.
Kellogg emphasized that his focus is not on a personal rivalry with Clark, stating, “I’m not a trash-talking … I wasn’t out to get Caitlin Clark. It’s not Mark Kellogg versus Caitlin Clark.” He explained that a comment about “sending Caitlin Clark home” was made by someone else in the room, which was taken out of context and circulated on social media.

Acknowledging the distortion caused by social media, Kellogg underscored that his team’s goal is to achieve success in the tournament, rather than targeting individual players. With Iowa set to face West Virginia in the second round, Kellogg aims to approach the game with professionalism and focus on his team’s performance.
The Iowa vs. West Virginia matchup is slated for Monday night, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN. A victory for Iowa could propel them to the Elite Eight, potentially facing LSU in the next round, contingent upon the outcome of their respective Sweet 16 matchups.
