Amit Patel, a former employee of the Jacksonville Jaguars, confessed last December to embezzling millions of dollars from the team. Revelations about Patel’s extravagant spending habits have now surfaced.
Patel admitted last year to pilfering over $22 million, attributing his actions to a severe gambling addiction. However, recent disclosures suggest that a significant portion of the misappropriated funds, at least $5 million, went towards financing Patel’s opulent lifestyle.
According to court documents obtained by ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Patel splurged $278,000 on luxurious accommodations, travel, and private jets. Additionally, he invested $200,000 in golf memorabilia, which included a putter once wielded by Tiger Woods valued at nearly $50,000. Not merely content with collecting, Patel also indulged in the sport himself, amassing $77,000 in expenses at an exclusive country club.

The filings further reveal Patel’s penchant for online shopping, with more than $140,000 spent on eBay alone since the onset of his spending spree. Notably, his eBay purchases even encompassed a game-worn Trevor Lawrence jersey worth $2,200, acquired shortly after charges were levied against him.
Federal prosecutors are pushing for an eight-year prison term for Patel, whose sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday.
