Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton and his comedian girlfriend Jasmin Brown welcomed their baby on Wednesday, ten days after Newton’s involvement in a brawl in Georgia.
Following the birth, Brown took to social media to humorously discuss the challenges of wearing diapers after childbirth, expressing her desire to wear a thong instead. As Brown made light of the situation, the newborn’s babbling in the background added to the comedic moment.
‘Real question, how long do we have to wear this diaper? This s**t is annoying,’ she joked. ‘I wanna wear a thong.’
‘You don’t want me to wear a thong,’ Brown asked the baby in the second slide. ‘You want me to wear a diaper ’cause you have on a diaper? Okay, we’ll be diaper twins.’
Brown, who has been dating Newton since 2021, announced her pregnancy in October and continued her comedy tour across the US while expecting. While this is their first child together, Newton has seven other children, five from his relationship with Kia Proctor and two with La Reina Shaw.
The birth occurred just over a week after the former NFL MVP was involved in a brawl during a youth football event.
On February 25, Newton was captured on video fighting off several men during a 7-on-7 tournament at the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Georgia. Footage of the incident quickly spread on social media platforms.
It was later revealed that the altercation involved opposing coaches TJ and Steph Brown. In an interview with Fox News, TJ explained that the confrontation escalated from a verbal exchange initiated by Newton, which turned physical when Steph approached him after the game.
‘If you’re walking up a flight of stairs, and you see a 6’6″ guy grab your little brother trying to throw him down some stairs, you’re going to intervene,’ TJ said.
‘It doesn’t matter who you are, rather it be a punch, rather it be a push, rather it be grabbing him. You’re going to do something. So, at that point, with Cam putting his hands on another grown man, something is going to come behind that.’
On March 1, Newton addressed the incident’s inexcusable nature on the 4th &1 podcast.
‘There’s no excuse,’ Newton said. ‘It’s really not, ’cause it could’ve been a melee, more violence could’ve stemmed from that and it’s just not called for.
‘And on top of that, it’s echoing something that’s been permeating for years – black people. Why it gotta be at a black event? You know what I’m saying? And I can easily play the victim and I’m not going to do that.’
Neither Newton nor the Browns pursued charges after the altercation.
