Tiger Woods has broken his silence regarding his departure from the Genesis Invitational golf tournament and has provided further details about his health.
The golf icon withdrew from the tournament on Friday after experiencing flu-like symptoms and was carted off the course during the competition. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Woods, 48, confirmed that he had to withdraw due to illness, specifically influenza. He assured fans that he is resting and feeling better, expressing disappointment at not being able to compete and thanking the tournament organizers and fans for their support.
Woods’ exit from the tournament occurred after he experienced back spasms and flu symptoms, leading to his removal from the course by a rules official. He received treatment for potential dehydration and dizziness related to his illness from emergency personnel at the Riviera Country Club course.

According to Rob McNamara, EVP of TGR Ventures, Woods had been experiencing flu-like symptoms that worsened during the competition. He was treated with IV fluids and is reportedly recovering well.
Previously, Woods had discussed experiencing back spasms during the tournament, which were exacerbated after attempting a shot from the 18th fairway. He underwent fusion surgery on his right ankle in April 2023 to address post-traumatic arthritis resulting from a car accident in February 2021. Despite his physical challenges, Woods managed to compete in the tournament, acknowledging the need to improve his preparation and rehabilitation protocols.
Despite the setback, Woods remains focused on his recovery and future competitions, emphasizing the importance of proper preparation and care to manage his physical condition effectively.
