NBC’s “Today” encountered an embarrassing moment while discussing the weather forecast for the upcoming NFC Championship Game between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers.
The graphic displayed the correct logos for the Lions and 49ers, but an error in text stated “Packers vs. 49ers” at the center of the graphic.
“As we slide towards the west, this is like a nearly perfect forecast,” mentioned the NBC meteorologist. “Packers vs. 49ers at 6:30 p.m. ET – partly cloudy skies, light winds. I’m hoping for a Packers-Ravens Super Bowl.”
Upon being corrected by a colleague, the meteorologist clarified her prediction, emphasizing a Lions win.
“That’s what I meant. They [the Packers] lost last week. I meant Lions win.”
The Packers had an opportunity to upset the 49ers last Saturday, but an interception from Jordan Love sealed their fate.
The NFC Championship Game, featuring the Lions against the 49ers, will be broadcast on FOX. Despite the error, it’s acknowledged that such mistakes can occur in live TV broadcasts.
