The Toronto Raptors made news on Wednesday by trading star player Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers. With that trade, the Raptors waived center Christian Koloko who they drafted in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona.
Koloko made an impact during his rookie season making 19 starts and appearing in 58 games for the Raptors. However, it has now been revealed that Koloko is dealing with a serious medical issue that may be career-threatening.

According to reports from The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania, Koloko has been referred to the league’s Fitness-To-Play panel, rendering him unable to participate in games while undergoing medical evaluation. The specific concern revolves around a blood clot issue, which not only raises questions about his NBA career but also poses risks to his overall health.
Blood clotting complications were the determining factor in the retirement of Hall of Famer Chris Bosh, who stepped away from the NBA when Miami Heat doctors deemed him unfit to return to play.
During his time at Arizona, Koloko earned first-team All Pac-12 honors in his final season in 2022. Additionally, he was recognized as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year averaging 2.8 blocks per game.
Hopefully Koloko can safely return to the court soon.
