Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, not only holds a high-profile position in the NFL but is also a devoted son to his father, Nathaniel Prescott, and late mother, Peggy Prescott.
Dak’s close relationship with his parents began when they welcomed him in July 1993, completing their family with older sons Thaddeus “Tad” and Jace. Although Dak’s parents divorced when he started elementary school, his bond with his late mother, Peggy, remained strong. Peggy, who battled colon cancer and passed away in 2013, had a significant impact on Dak’s life.
Dak created an organization in Peggy’s honor, focusing on cancer research. His dedication earned him the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year award. In his acceptance speech, he acknowledged Peggy’s influence, describing her as his moral compass.

Dak also shares a close bond with his father, Nathaniel, emphasizing their unique relationship. Despite their divorce, Nathaniel and Peggy maintained a friendship, meeting every Wednesday post-divorce. Dak’s parents, high school sweethearts, had three sons, and the family remained tight-knit despite their parents’ separation.
Growing up in a small Louisiana town, Dak and his brothers competed fiercely but remained close. Nathaniel, who played college football before injuries ended his career, passed on his love for the game to his sons. Peggy, a devoted football mom, supported her sons with passion, even getting a football-themed tattoo in their honor.
After Peggy’s cancer diagnosis, she continued attending Dak’s games. Dak, inspired by his mother’s fight, advocates for colon cancer testing and uses his platform to honor her memory. He points to the sky after touchdowns and wears the No. 4 on his jersey, representing Peggy’s birthday.
Nathaniel, the family patriarch, moved to Frisco, Texas, near Dak, after working as a city bus driver in Austin. Dak remains guided by Peggy’s mantra, “Faith. Fight. Finish.” His foundation, Faith Fight Finish, focuses on empowering individuals, families, and communities through adversity, supporting cancer research, and providing mental health support.
Dak expanded the foundation’s work to include prevention services after his brother Jace’s suicide in 2020. Despite facing adversity, Dak Prescott continues to use his experiences to inspire and make a meaningful impact on others.
