Stephen A. Smith surprised his First Take colleague Molly Qerim with an unexpected on-air gift, leaving her momentarily speechless. During a special edition of the sports debate show on Monday, the 56-year-old ESPN sportscaster presented Molly, his colleague of nearly a decade, with a large Michigan hat.
The First Take team had taken their show on the road for a live broadcast from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Molly and Stephen A., along with Shannon Sharpe, discussed and previewed the National Championship game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies.
Beginning the episode live from the sideline in Houston, Molly warmly welcomed viewers to a day filled with pre-game excitement. Stephen A., however, teased a surprise for her, sparking her curiosity. Molly exclaimed, “A surprise?! Okay, that makes me nervous.”
Later in the show, Stephen A. unveiled the surprise, revealing the oversized Michigan hat from beneath the desk. Molly, amused, commented on the hat’s size, jokingly attributing it to her “big head” compared to Stephen A.’s “peanut head.” As the hat slipped down to Molly’s shoulders, both hosts shared laughter over the unexpected but good-natured gift.
