Pat McAfee remains unapologetic about his scathing comments directed at Norby Williamson, ESPN’s head of production. The former NFL kicker, speaking on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ referred to Williamson as a “rat” and expressed his lack of love or respect for him. ESPN responded with a statement, indicating that they would handle the matter internally.
Despite the controversy, McAfee has not backtracked on his comments, emphasizing that his relationship with ESPN remains strong. While acknowledging that there are individuals they do not like, he asserted that the overall relationship between him and ESPN is resilient.
McAfee affirmed that he stands by his words regarding the specific individual but highlighted the enduring strength of their partnership with ESPN. He acknowledged that there might be some individuals who are resistant to the evolving landscape but expressed confidence in moving forward.
“Now there’s certainly people we do not like, certainly,” he said. “And they do not like us, that’s how it’s gonna be. And I don’t take back anything that I said about said person, but the overall storyline about us and ESPN I think people need to remember – we’re strong, baby.
“We all understand what the future looks like, there’s just some old hags that potentially don’t but we will move forward to that.”
Addressing the platform on which he made the comments, McAfee noted that he spoke on the YouTube version of the show rather than on television. He expressed surprise at the extent of the reaction, emphasizing the show’s strength and understanding of the future landscape.
