College football teams from Texas seem to face a dubious track record in games attended by Senator Ted Cruz. Despite the senator’s alma mater being Princeton and Harvard Law School, he consistently supports Texas-based programs. However, Cruz has gained a reputation as a jinx due to the unfavorable outcomes when he attends games.
An investigation by The Messenger revealed that Cruz attended dozens of sporting events over the past decade, with teams from Texas holding a 1-6 record when they were the sole representative from the state. The lone victory in this scenario was Texas A&M’s win over Alabama in 2021.

The Texas Longhorns, on the other hand, have suffered three losses out of three games attended by Cruz. The most recent defeat occurred at the Superdome on Monday, where the Longhorns lost to Washington by a score of 37-31.
In response to the “Ted Cruz Curse” speculation following the Longhorns’ loss, Cruz took to Twitter to highlight some of the victories he witnessed, positioning himself as a good luck charm in those instances.
However, critics pointed out that Cruz’s mention of the Astros’ streak didn’t consider the losses in 2023, during which he was present for all four defeats leading to Houston’s loss to the Texans in the ALCS.
As debates about the alleged curse continue, time will tell if the Longhorns decide to keep Cruz at a distance in future games to avoid any potential jinx. Cruz’s attendance at sporting events has become a subject of scrutiny, with some attributing losses to his presence.
