Matthew McConaughey must be feeling fatigued after witnessing his cherished Texas Longhorns succumb to the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff on Monday.
The Academy Award winner, a devoted Longhorns fan, was prominently featured on multiple ESPN broadcasts as he observed the game from the sidelines in New Orleans, where Texas made its inaugural CFP appearance in the Sugar Bowl.
McConaughey transitioned from energizing players, slapping helmets, and cheering to an expression of defeat as the second-ranked Huskies (14-0) celebrated a 37-31 victory over the No. 3 Texas (12-2).
With just one second remaining and a six-point lead for the Huskies, McConaughey was spotted with both arms raised in anticipation. However, his optimism waned when Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers attempted a fade to a closely marked Adonai Mitchell, resulting in a deflection by Washington cornerback Elijah Jackson.

Despite reaching the Washington 12-yard line with 15 seconds left, Texas had four attempts at the end zone, but Ewers missed on the last three.
The 54-year-old actor was seen pacing and fervently addressing Texas players on the sidelines. He also joined ESPN’s Field Pass crew for commentary in the second quarter, leaving the announcers as he sought a better vantage point.
“I can’t keep looking at the damn screen,” McConaughey expressed.
Kenny Mayne humorously remarked that McConaughey was “illegally inside the players’ box” while on the sidelines.
Despite the loss, McConaughey maintained good spirits and reflected on Texas’ college football season in a post on X.
“What a journey this season,” he wrote early Tuesday morning. “Didn’t end how we wanted, proud of this @texasfootball team – hats off to the Huskies.”
McConaughey remains a steadfast presence at Longhorns games.
