News broke Monday about Kyrie trying to recruit LeBron to join him in Dallas. Of course, a trade would need to happen as LeBron is not a free agent and under contract with the Lakers.
The Mavs were in talks during the season to make a blockbuster trade with the Lakers. However, the Lakers deadline moves put an end to those conversations.
The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported what the Lakers would need in exchange for LeBron. Well, let’s just say the Mavericks wouldn’t be forming any Big 3 with Kyrie, LeBron, and Luka Doncic.
That’s because Luka Doncic would have to be involved in a trade for LeBron.
“If Dallas is offering Luka Doncic for James, then yes, one would assume the Lakers will listen,” Buha writes. “But aside from that, the Lakers aren’t going to trade James to the Mavericks. James could try to force their hand, but that would just likely lead to a messy power struggle.”
Simply put, this isn’t going to happen.
LeBron’s future remains uncertain, but it is highly likely that his future won’t be in a Mavericks uniform.
The Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving midseason last year and the results were disappointing. The Mavs didn’t even manage to make the play-ins.
Meanwhile, the Lakers completely turned around their season following the trade deadline. Of course, the Lakers were swept in four games by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
