This week, the mother of New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is defending her son.
After a frightening concussion during the game against the Miami Dolphins, Lisa Wilson, Zach Wilson’s mother, took to social media to provide an explanation for her son’s condition.

Wilson, the Jets quarterback, had to leave the Sunday game prematurely after just 22 snaps. The team later confirmed he suffered a head injury and ruled him out with a concussion in the third quarter. Wilson’s performance during the game was limited, completing 4 out of 11 passes for 26 yards. While it wasn’t clear exactly when the injury occurred, Wilson was briefly examined in the medical tent early in the game after his head hit the ground during a play.
In an Instagram story, Lisa Wilson shared that her son did not immediately inform the coaching staff about the severity of his injury until he experienced blurred vision and issues with depth perception that became concerning.
“Yesterday was a little bit rough, Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field,” Lisa Wilson explained. “He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to stop playing — so he didn’t tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys.”
Wilson had been sacked four times during his brief appearance against Miami, and one of those hits proved to be too much for him.
“Finally, after one more blow to the head, he really started having problems with blurred vision and his depth perception,” Lisa Wilson shared. “He really started worrying that he was actually going to hurt his team if he stayed out there because his vision was not right and how you can’t play like that.”
Despite being the reigning AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Wilson has had a mixed 2023 season, initially not expected to see much action after the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers. However, he was coming off his best performance of the year in the Jets’ win over the Texans, where he threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns.
Wilson’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders remains uncertain, as he may not clear concussion protocol, and Trevor Siemian is set to start in his place. While Rodgers had been considering a return from his ruptured Achilles later this month, the team is eliminated from playoff contention.
Of all the NFL moms, Lisa Wilson continues to be prominently in the spotlight.
