A Texas high school football player is gaining widespread attention this week after sharing photos of himself on social media.
Byron Washington, an offensive lineman from DeSoto, stands at an imposing 6 feet 7.5 inches and weighs 380 pounds, according to 247Sports. He’s making waves online with an image showcasing his dominance over a 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass rusher during a Division II Texas State football championship game against Summer Creek last Saturday.
As a three-star recruit for the class of 2025, Washington has garnered offers from prominent college programs, including Texas, Oregon, and TCU. He is poised to become one of the most substantial players in high school football history.
Ari Wasserman of The Athletic reports that Washington’s remarkable growth spurt began in the sixth grade, during which he shot up a full six inches in just one month. This sudden increase in height led to emergency surgery, with metal rods inserted into his legs to provide additional support for his massive frame. Over the next two years, he underwent extensive physical therapy.

Washington shared, “My growth plates were stretching so much, I had to get metal rods put in my legs to straighten them out for more support on my body. For two years, I had to do physical therapy. I had to learn how to trust my body again. Getting to this point wasn’t easy.”
Despite the challenges, Washington didn’t let the ordeal hinder his progress. Instead, he has turned it into an advantage and is making a name for himself in the highly competitive recruitment market. He is undoubtedly a player to keep an eye on, and his size on the field is impossible to ignore.
