Baseball’s offseason has resolved its most significant question, as Shohei Ohtani is set to join the Dodgers.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Ohtani has agreed to an extraordinary 10-year, $700 million contract, marking the most lucrative deal in baseball history. This surpasses the $426.5 million contract granted to former Angels teammate Mike Trout in 2019 over a 12-year duration. While Ohtani announced his new team on Instagram, specific contract details were not disclosed.
Following the announcement of Ohtani’s signing, the Angels promptly removed his banner at Angels Stadium.
Anticipation for a record-breaking contract surrounded Ohtani, given his unparalleled talent as both a hitter and pitcher. Despite the Angels finishing fourth in the AL West in the past three MLB seasons, Ohtani secured the American League MVP award twice during that period.

In the previous season, the 29-year-old delivered the best performance of his career, boasting a .304 batting average, a 1.066 OPS, 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. On the pitching mound, he achieved a 10-5 record with a 3.14 ERA in 23 starts, recording 167 strikeouts in 132 innings.
While the Angels are poised to recover, it’s evident that they swiftly took action to remove Ohtani’s presence at Angels Stadium in case he chose not to re-sign with the team.
