Brett Favre is not one to retreat easily.
In an attempt to resurrect his legal battle against Shannon Sharpe, Favre filed an appeal after a federal judge dismissed his defamation lawsuit last month. The initial lawsuit stemmed from comments made by Sharpe regarding Favre’s alleged involvement in the Mississippi welfare scandal.
Favre was accused of receiving state welfare funds to finance a volleyball arena at his alma mater and his daughter’s school, Southern Mississippi. Sharpe, on an episode of Undisputed, stated that Favre had “stolen money from people that really needed that money.”

Despite the dismissal with prejudice, barring Favre from refiled the case, the former quarterback remains persistent in seeking legal recourse.
A U.S. District Court Judge emphasized that Sharpe’s comments were rhetorical hyperbole and not a factual assertion that Favre had committed theft against specific individuals in Mississippi. The judge’s ruling was grounded in the context of extensive media coverage of Favre’s connection to the welfare scandal and the state’s lawsuit against him.
Favre also took legal action against Pat McAfee, who announced in May that Favre dropped the defamation lawsuit without any settlement, dubbing him the “sticky finger bandit.”
Responding to the judge’s dismissal on his Nightcap podcast, Sharpe expressed his resolve not to apologize or settle, stating his intention to take the matter to the highest court. Sharpe cited his confidence in his financial resources as a factor in his decision.
While Favre faces a lawsuit from the Mississippi Department of Human Services seeking repayment of over $77 million in misappropriated welfare funds, he currently does not face any criminal charges.
Shannon Sharpe, on the other hand, appears unfazed by the legal proceedings, relying on his legal team to handle the situation.
