That’ll leave a mark.
NFL Films has been capturing the Dolphins’ journey throughout the regular season on Hard Knocks, shedding light on the charismatic nature of coach Mike McDaniel. Despite being in his second year as head coach in Miami and leading the Dolphins to an impressive 8–3 record, placing them at the top of the AFC East, it’s McDaniel’s consistent humor, both with the media and fellow coaches, that reveals his personality.

Before the Dolphins’ Black Friday victory of 34–13 against the Jets, Hard Knocks featured a pregame interaction between McDaniel and Jets coach Robert Saleh. The conversation revolved around a hit McDaniel took on the sideline from Raiders tight end Michael Mayer earlier in the season.
McDaniel humorously recounted the incident to Saleh and those present, saying, “He came up on me. He slips out, kicks me in the shoulder and elbowed me in my manhood.”
Hard Knocks then cut to a clip from the Raiders game, immediately after the incident, where McDaniel, communicating with his assistants on the headset, shared, “I had to act like it didn’t hurt, but it hurt like a motherf—–, and I got hit in the d—.”
This memorable clip from the recent Hard Knocks episode offers a glimpse into the lighter side of McDaniel’s coaching persona. The Dolphins are scheduled to face the Commanders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
