Philadelphia police issued an update on Wednesday that casts doubt on the reported hit-and-run involving Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. According to Max Marin, Ximena Conde, and Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, law enforcement stated that there is no photographic or video evidence supporting the occurrence of a collision at the intersection where Oubre claimed to have been hit.

Surveillance footage from two businesses near the alleged crash site, reviewed over a span of two hours, yielded no evidence of any accident. Police department spokesperson Sgt. Eric Gripp emphasized that Oubre is not facing accusations, and the investigation is ongoing.
An insider suggested to the newspaper that Oubre might have misidentified the intersection due to being new to the city, having joined the team in late September. Additionally, Oubre was reportedly “shaken up by his injuries” when providing his initial account to the police, only being certain that he was heading back to his Center City apartment.
While the details of the incident remain uncertain, it is undisputed that Oubre sustained significant injuries, including broken ribs. Despite this setback, the experienced forward had a strong start to the season, averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in eight appearances. He is expected to make a return later in the season.
