The Cleveland Browns made an announcement on Wednesday that quarterback Deshaun Watson is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his throwing shoulder.
According to the team, Watson sustained a broken bone in his right shoulder during Sunday’s victorious game against the Baltimore Ravens. Surgery is deemed necessary to prevent further structural damage. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Watson expressed a desire to play through the injuries by receiving injections, but multiple medical opinions warned against it, stating that another hit in the same spot could result in the shoulder falling apart.
Despite dealing with both a shoulder injury and a high ankle sprain during the game, Watson played a pivotal role in leading the Browns to a 33-31 come-from-behind victory.

Now, with Watson ruled out for the season, there is speculation connecting Tom Brady to the Browns. Social media users are suggesting the team explore options with Tom Brady and other notable quarterbacks.
Watson, currently in his second season with the Browns after a 2022 trade with the Houston Texans, has faced a series of injuries in recent weeks. He missed games in Week 4 and 6 due to a bruised rotator cuff, returned in Week 7 but left early due to aggravation of the shoulder ailment. He also missed the Week 8 game before returning to lead a 27-0 win over the Arizona Cardinals, throwing for 219 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season, Watson’s statistics were relatively ordinary, completing 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions in six games.
While Tom Brady would be an appealing option, it’s worth noting that he is officially retired.
