Kyler Murray is making a return for the Arizona Cardinals, but indications suggest they might not be fully committed to him in the long run.
The Cardinals officially activated quarterback Kyler Murray to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, solidifying his comeback from injury this week. Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed that Murray would start in Sunday’s game against the Falcons, provided he is ready to play.

Even before his return, questions loomed over whether the Cardinals would part ways with their quarterback. In the event that Murray doesn’t return, odds have been released, and the New England Patriots emerge as the clear favorites to acquire him. Other potential destinations include the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Currently holding the bottom spot in the NFL with a 1–8 record, the Cardinals struggled with veteran Josh Dobbs for eight games before trading him to the Vikings. Last week, Clayton Tune took over the offense, resulting in a disastrous 27–0 shutout loss to the Browns.
Murray has been sidelined since December 2022 when he tore his ACL against the Patriots, concluding the season with 2,368 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Arizona has struggled with a 1–13 record since his injury.
While the sentiments of Patriots fans regarding Murray remain uncertain, their positive reception of Mac Jones suggests that a change at quarterback would likely be embraced with open arms.
