Maintaining the satisfaction of wide receivers can be a challenging task.
Steelers wide receiver George Pickens appears to be expressing his frustration on social media regarding his role in the team’s offense.
On Friday, Pickens posted a message on his Instagram story that read, “Free me.” This came after a game against the Titans in which he only caught two passes for -1 yards, following a 1-catch game in a loss to the Jaguars the previous week.
During the Titans game, he missed a chance to score a touchdown when he couldn’t get his foot in the endzone after catching the ball.
Pickens’ social media activity didn’t end with the “Free Me” post, which he promptly deleted. He also removed several other posts related to the Steelers from his account.

Notably, Pickens also unfollowed everyone associated with the Steelers, including quarterback Kenny Pickett, coach Mike Tomlin, and the team’s official Instagram account. He even changed his profile picture to one from his high school days, erasing all references to the Steelers.
This season, Pickens caught 30 passes for 521 yards and three touchdowns, but he had higher expectations coming into the season to take the next step. The challenge lies in his quarterback Kenny Pickett throwing for fewer than 250 yards in a game more often than not, making it difficult to accumulate receiving yards.
It remains to be seen if things will settle down in the future. All Pickens really needs is one standout game to improve his situation in Pittsburgh.
