Rescue dog enthusiasts may not be pleased to hear about this.
Shannon Sharpe takes his role as a dog dad quite seriously. The talk show host and former NFL player were seen earlier this year in what appeared to be the purchase of a Pomeranian at the airport. While this raised some eyebrows due to the unusual transaction, it turns out that Sharpe spared no expense for the dog.
Sharpe explained the situation on a new episode of his show, “Nightcap,” with fellow retired NFL star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson. “I got a dog, and the dog was from overseas,” he said. “I did it because the dog was beautiful, and I wanted one that looked like this.”
Regarding the peculiar meeting at LAX, Sharpe had a logical explanation. “I had to pay a lady to leave her country, fly to another country, pick up the dog, fly to LA, drop off the dog just long enough, and then get back,” he detailed. When Ochocinco inquired about the cost of the dog, Sharpe simply replied, “ten.” This left Ocho in disbelief and at a loss for words.

“Man, you paid $10,000 for a dog? 10,000 American dollars?” Ochocinco expressed in astonishment. “Come on, man. Unc, man, I could’ve got you a Pom from the city for $300.”
Ochocinco was charmed by Sharpe’s furry friend but couldn’t help but question whether Sharpe would get his money’s worth. “He doesn’t talk? Can he do a trick? For $10,000, that little guy better be able to do something!” Ocho jokingly remarked.
Spending a hefty $10,000 is undoubtedly one way to avoid adopting a dog from a shelter, which is regrettable since many of those shelter dogs turn out to be wonderful companions.
