Sometimes, certain words should remain unspoken.
On a recent episode of First Things First, co-host Chris Broussard found himself in hot water. During a discussion regarding the Los Angeles Clippers’ acquisition of James Harden, Broussard made an unfortunate choice of words that warranted an immediate apology.
While debating with fellow panelist Nick Wright about Harden’s playing style and utilization with the Clippers, Broussard used the R-word, a highly inappropriate term.

The expression on host Kevin Wildes’ face following Broussard’s utterance mirrored the collective sentiment of the audience. Broussard had aimed to foster a meaningful discussion about the significant NBA news but had inadvertently veered into problematic territory.
Realizing his misstep, Broussard attempted a hasty course correction by mentioning that he had a cousin with developmental disabilities. However, it’s unclear if he believed this explanation justified his use of the word or what point he was trying to make. It has been a considerable amount of time since such language has been heard on television, and society has long agreed that such terminology is inappropriate.
Broussard might need to take a moment to reflect on the incident, as speaking off the cuff should not result in using insensitive language.
