It seems NFL players can also play the role of matchmakers.
Matthew Stafford, the renowned quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, and his wife Kelly Stafford, have proven to be quite the matchmaking duo. The couple played a crucial role in bringing together Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson and her partner, Steven Cundari.
“Dan, the story there is that Matthew Stafford and Kelly were sick of me dating losers and they were like ‘we have a great guy for you,’” she recalled via her podcast.
Cundari, co-founder of Summit House, a prominent full-service creative marketing and advertising agency, was introduced to Thompson by the Staffords, who are close friends of hers.
Thompson shared this delightful revelation on a recent episode of her “Calm Down” podcast. During the episode, Erin Andrews, Thompson’s co-host, couldn’t contain her admiration for Cundari and humorously expressed her desire to see the couple wed, referring to Cundari as Thompson’s husband.
Thompson then took the opportunity to share the intriguing backstory of how she came to know Cundari. The Staffords, concerned about their friend Thompson’s unsuccessful relationships, decided to play matchmakers and introduced her to Cundari, whom they believed would be a perfect match for her. Thompson reminisced about the incident and mentioned that the entire matchmaking process was thoroughly vetted, adding a touch of humor to the tale.
Thompson, the charismatic host of “Thursday Night Football,” also shared her firm decision not to marry again. She had gone through a highly-publicized divorce with sports agent Kyle Thousand in 2022 after two years of marriage. While Thompson generally keeps her personal life private, she occasionally discusses her past relationships on her podcast, often laced with humor.

Thompson and Andrews have enjoyed a close friendship with the Stafford couple for many years. Kelly Stafford often shares snapshots of their group outings on various social media platforms. In fact, Thompson, Cundari, and the Stafford couple were all present at a wedding in Cabo in June, as revealed by Kelly Stafford’s Instagram post.
Furthermore, Cundari had the opportunity to be a guest on Kelly Stafford’s “The Morning After” podcast in 2021, further solidifying the close-knit relationship among these individuals. This heartwarming tale of friendship and matchmaking provides a refreshing glimpse into the personal lives of these high-profile sports personalities.
Kudos to Matthew Stafford for his matchmaking efforts.
