The return of NFL football to Los Angeles was a financial imperative.
The absence of an NFL team in America’s second-largest television market had left substantial revenue untapped. For two decades, the sole NFL football presence in California was in San Diego and the Bay Area.
In 2016, the league relocated the Rams back to Los Angeles, followed by the Chargers the subsequent year. In preparation for the 2020 season, a state-of-the-art stadium was built in Inglewood, California, to serve as the home stadium for both teams. However, opposing fans have consistently infiltrated the venue at every game. This phenomenon was especially evident during a Monday Night Football showdown between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys.
During the fourth quarter, the Monday Night Football broadcast shifted its focus to a passionate woman in glasses sporting a Justin Herbert jersey. While it can’t be definitively proven that she was the most fervent Chargers fan among the 70,000 spectators, nationally televised event production crews are adept at selecting enthusiastic audience members to feature.

The cameras revisited her after the Chargers managed to tie the game with just over seven minutes remaining. At that point, she was so euphoric that her glasses were nowhere to be found.
The broadcast revisited her on multiple occasions, including moments of disappointment with her hands on her cheeks after the Cowboys took the lead and eventually secured a 20-17 victory. In a sea of Cowboy colors, a woman adorned in Chargers powder blue emerged as one of the game’s prominent figures.
There were speculations that she might have been an “industry plant,” giving rise to various conspiracy theories. Today, she made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show. The mystery behind the viral Chargers fan has been unveiled: her name is Merrianne Do.
“I wear my heart on my sleeve, I’m intense in everything I do. Football being one of the most intense things I do,” Do, who dubbed herself a “crazy mom of four,” said on The Pat McAfee Show.
“Last night when I was watching, I’m like, ahhh, it was so close,” she added. “We just need to get that touchdown.
“…I couldn’t handle it. I was excited, I was elated. My heart was just bursting.”
Congratulations to the Chargers fan who became an internet sensation, enjoying her fifteen minutes of online fame. It’s a testament to the peculiar times we live in.
