Kerry Washington recently discussed her new book on Watch What Happens Live and also shared who the most prominent celebrity to reach out to her through direct messages (DMs) was: Shaquille O’Neal.
The 46-year-old actress has been actively promoting her book, “Thicker Than Water,” which was published earlier this week.

During the show, host Andy Cohen asked her, “Who’s the most famous person to slide into your DMs, wanting to connect as a friend or otherwise?” To everyone’s surprise, Washington answered, “Um, Shaq, Shaquille O’Neal,” leading to an astonished “Wow!” from Cohen and applause from the Bravo Clubhouse audience.
Washington also mentioned that Shaq is a big fan of “Scandal” and is always willing to do anything for her character, Command.
In addition, Washington revealed where she went on her first date with her now-husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha. She shared that it was at a charming cafe on the Upper East Side, which unfortunately no longer exists.
Reflecting on her acting career, Washington recalled the moment she knew she wanted to be an actress: “When I saw my mother cry during a performance that I played. I was like, this is a woman who gave birth to me, but I was able to fool her into thinking I was somebody else.”
When asked about the first time she felt she had ‘made it’ in the entertainment industry, Washington responded humbly, “I will let you know when that happens.”
