The verdict is in.
Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted on Dale Mooney, a New England Patriots fan who tragically passed away following a “scuffle” at a game on Sunday, have been disclosed.
Mooney had reportedly been involved in a physical altercation before his death at Gillette Stadium. After being punched, he was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
However, the autopsy findings revealed no signs of traumatic injury but did identify a “medical issue,” shedding light on the unfortunate incident.
A statement issued on Wednesday noted:
“Our investigation has included numerous law enforcement interviews and the examination of multiple angles of video capturing the scuffle prior to Mr. Dale Mooney’s collapse during the Sunday night game at Gillette Stadium,” Wednesday’s statement read.
“Preliminary autopsy results did not suggest traumatic injury, but did identify a medical issue.”
Lisa Mooney, Dale Mooney’s wife, shared that her husband had been a devoted Patriots season ticket holder for three decades, according to multiple news reports.
Several videos circulating online depict the altercation involving Mooney and Dolphins fans. The footage shows Mooney, clad in a Patriots jersey, engaged in a confrontation that escalates into violence. An assailant, not clearly visible in the video, delivers a blow to Mooney’s temple, causing him to collapse in his seat.
The Massachusetts State Police reported that Mooney “suffered an apparent medical event” during the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ Sunday night game. Police and firefighters were summoned around 11 p.m. to the 300-tier section of the stadium to provide medical assistance to Mooney following what witnesses have described as an altercation in the stands.
The Dolphins fan who threw the punch was escorted away by police, as witnessed by onlookers.
As of Thursday, no charges have been filed in connection with Mooney’s tragic death. The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his passing.
