Chicago Bears quarterback, Justin Fields, addressed reporters once again on Wednesday, seeking to clarify his earlier comments that had garnered significant attention.
In his earlier statement, Fields had expressed a sense of feeling “robotic” and not performing up to his usual standard, especially during the team’s challenging 0-2 start to the season. He outlined his intention to rely more on his instincts moving forward, adopting a fearless mindset for the upcoming games.
When asked about his tendency to overthink during games, Fields mentioned that it “could be coaching,” referring to the information he receives and processes during plays. However, he stressed that he never intended to place blame on the coaching staff and expressed his unwavering commitment to taking personal responsibility for his on-field performance.
Fields stated emphatically, “I’m not blaming anything on the coaches,” Fields said, per 79th & Halas Podcast. “I’m never going to blame anything on the coaches. Never going to blame anything on my teammates. Whatever happens in the game, I will take all the blame.”
Fields acknowledged his need to perform at a higher level and assumed complete accountability for his early-season challenges.
“I need to play better,” Fields stated. “That’s it. Point blank. That’s what I should have said in the first place.”

Over the first two games of the season, Fields completed 40 of 66 passes for 427 yards, securing two touchdowns but also enduring three interceptions and ten sacks. His rushing yards have been limited to 62, down from an average of 76.2 per game in his second season.
The Chicago Bears, who finished last in passing offense in the previous season, are currently ranked 27th in total offense. As Fields and the Bears seek to avoid an 0-3 start, their next challenge awaits them at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.
