Think twice about what you say when a microphone is in close proximity.
Stefon Diggs has chosen to address the situation a day after a reporter’s inadvertently recorded comments criticizing his professionalism surfaced online.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the 29-year-old Buffalo Bills star expressed his feelings about the hurtful audio that had emerged. He found the comments insulting to his character and upbringing, emphasizing his consistent approach of treating people with kindness and respect.
He mentioned his courteous interactions with everyone, from the café staff to those responsible for maintaining the building’s cleanliness and order.
Diggs continued in a separate post, distinguishing between his competitiveness on the field, which fans and the media witness, and his off-field persona. He asserted that he has never treated anyone in the manner described and has never uttered anything remotely similar to what was attributed to him.
The controversy arose from an online clip featuring Bills team reporter Maddy Glab, in which she appeared to express her frustration with Diggs.
Glab stated, “There’s no control over Stefon Diggs. Dude’s gonna do what he wants to do. He’ll look in my face and say [expletive] you… that’s how he treats everybody.”
On X, Glab subsequently issued an apology to Diggs, expressing her deep regret for her comments and emphasizing her respect for him as one of her favorite players to cover. She acknowledged his great character and how he treats the media with respect, even taking time out of his day to engage with them.
She clarified that her remarks stemmed from a joking remark made by another reporter, suggesting she go and find Stefon Diggs. She commented on his independent spirit, which she admires.
In response, Stefon Diggs posted an apology to the media at large, recognizing their professional responsibilities and expressing his remorse if he ever made them or anyone else feel apprehensive about approaching him.
However, the exchange didn’t sit well with another Diggs. Stefon’s younger brother, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, posted the audio of Glab’s hot mic incident and shared his perspective, noting how quickly people can change their stance and expressing concern for his brother’s well-being.
