Using a football helmet as a weapon is unacceptable under any circumstances.
In a Florida high school football game, Marianna defeated Blountstown 42-18 last Friday, but the game was overshadowed by a violent incident involving Gavin Lambeth from Blountstown and Marianna’s Ethan Lipford. At the end of a play, Lambeth forcefully grabbed Lipford’s helmet and slammed his head into the ground twice.
Subsequently, when Lipford’s helmet came off, Lambeth struck him with it.
Watch below:
Lambeth was ejected from the game, while Lipford suffered a concussion and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Tallahassee. Lambeth received an automatic one-game suspension, but considering the severity of the incident, it raises questions about whether he should ever be allowed to participate in football again.
MyPanhandle.com reported that Lambeth has also been charged.
We can only hope that Lipford recovers fully because this incident was undeniably horrific. Football is an inherently physical sport, but it should never involve intentional harm to another player.
No child should find themselves in such a perilous situation.
