Fans of sports teams often reveal their true colors when certain players don’t meet their expectations, and the rise of sports betting and Fantasy Football has exacerbated this issue.
Alexander Mattison experienced this firsthand after a Thursday Night Football game. The Minnesota Vikings running back has had a challenging start to the 2023 season, but that doesn’t justify the mistreatment he received. After the game, he took to social media to expose the hateful and repugnant messages he received from individuals claiming to be fans.

This behavior is truly disgraceful and condemnable.
Following the #Eagles game, #Vikings RB Alexander Mattison revealed on Instagram that he was subjected to racial slurs, death threats, and various other racist terms in his direct messages from these so-called “fans.”
In the recent Thursday night game, Mattison rushed eight times for 28 yards, catching three of six targets for 11 yards, during the Vikings’ 34-28 loss to the Eagles. Unfortunately, he also had a fumble.
Mattison’s performance in this game marked another disappointment after an underwhelming start to the season, with just 11 carries for 34 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Alexander Mattison is expected to play a pivotal role for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 season, the beginning hasn’t unfolded as he had hoped in the first two games.
In the previous season, Mattison accumulated 283 rushing yards on 74 carries and scored five touchdowns on the ground over 17 games. He formed a formidable partnership with quarterback Kirk Cousins, helping the Vikings reach the playoffs.
The Vikings now find themselves with an 0-2 record to start the season, facing a challenging road ahead.
