It appears that former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has expressed interest in joining the Jets’ quarterback roster for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Kaepernick relayed to NFL insider Jordan Schultz that his agent has initiated contact with the Jets regarding his desire to make a return to the league. Currently, he is actively training on the West Coast.
With the confirmation of Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury due to a ruptured Achilles, the Jets may find themselves in need of a veteran quarterback.
Kaepernick had previously disclosed in June that he is still eager to play quarterback in the NFL, expressing his determination to return to the field.
“I’m going to keep pushing,” Kaepernick shared with Gilbert Manzano of Sports Illustrated. “I’m going to keep fighting for it because I know I can step on the field and play. Every workout, every opportunity I’ve had to show that, the feedback has always been positive. Everything from ‘He’s still an elite player’ to ‘The workout was great; it was better than expected.'”

He continued, “When I had my workout with the Raiders last year, even training with guys, there’s a decent amount of people who may have forgotten what I was capable of doing on the field. So any chance to be able to remind people of what I can do out there, I look forward to and embrace, and I look forward to the day that I get to step on the field and show people what I can do.”
Kaepernick’s last NFL appearance was with the 49ers in 2016, during which he amassed 2,241 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions for the season.
