Aaron Rodgers’ unfortunate Achilles injury has sent shockwaves through the New York Jets’ season, transforming what began as a promising Super Bowl potential into a four-play nightmare.
With Rodgers sidelined for the season and potentially facing the end of his football career, the Jets find themselves in dire need of a solution to salvage their season.
Head coach Robert Saleh aimed to clarify the team’s quarterback strategy for the remainder of the year in the wake of Rodgers’ official diagnosis.
“Zach is our designated starter,” Saleh affirmed in a conversation with CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. “We’re in the process of identifying a third quarterback, with scouts currently assembling a list.”
While Saleh confirmed Zach Wilson’s role as the team’s starting quarterback, they are actively seeking a third quarterback to bolster their depth. Tim Boyle, previously inactive for Monday’s game, will now serve as Wilson’s backup, representing the sole alternative quarterback on the roster.
The Jets are in the process of compiling a list of potential quarterbacks to bring in, and their choice will be closely watched. They have the option to pursue an experienced veteran like Joe Flacco or Carson Wentz, both of whom are currently free agents.
Alternatively, they could explore a trade for a backup quarterback, such as Jameis Winston or Teddy Bridgewater, provided their respective teams are open to negotiation.
For the time being, the Jets will place their trust in Wilson, although past experiences have demonstrated the challenges of relying solely on a young quarterback.
