Kyle Lowry found himself on the receiving end of an unexpected jab from former NFL player turned college football analyst Robert Griffin III. This incident occurred recently when Griffin was on national TV in anticipation of Baylor’s home game against Utah on Saturday.
Griffin, who had played for Baylor during his college career, couldn’t contain his enthusiasm about the team’s tradition of welcoming players onto the field during the broadcast. The tradition involved a line forming at the south end of the stadium, with players running onto the field through a human tunnel created by alumni and fans who cheered them on.
Amidst all this excitement, the former Washington Redskins quarterback made a surprising reference, stating that he couldn’t wait to immerse himself in one of the greatest college football traditions worldwide, adding that he was getting into it just like Kyle Lowry.
“I can’t wait to get in the thick of one of the greatest college football traditions in the world,” said RGIII. “I’m getting in the thick of it like Kyle Lowry.”
NBA fans on social media, particularly Twitter, swiftly responded with their reactions as RGIII’s remarks gained traction online.
“This is one of the most unexpected jabs ever… What did Kyle do to you, RGIII?”
This incident isn’t the first time that Kyle Lowry has been the target of RGIII’s comments. A year ago, RGIII body-shamed the Miami Heat star during a broadcast.
Additionally, he took another swipe at Lowry a month later when he compared 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel to Lowry in a tweet.
Griffin’s continued jabs at Lowry stemmed from criticism the Heat star faced for not being in optimal shape during his initial season with Miami, prompting Heat president Pat Riley to call him out. Riley emphasized the importance of world-class conditioning for maximum player performance and mentioned that Lowry would need to address this concern.
Since then, Lowry has taken steps to improve his conditioning, and for most of the past year, he has maintained excellent physical shape.
Despite occasional injuries, Lowry made significant contributions when available, and he played a crucial role in the Heat’s remarkable postseason journey to the finals as an eighth seed, even coming off the bench.
