Eugenie Bouchard is set to embark on a fresh chapter in her professional sports career by delving into the world of pickleball.
The announcement of her new venture was made via her social media channels, where she revealed her intention to join the Carvana PPA pickleball tour, commencing next year.
Details regarding Bouchard’s transition remain somewhat hazy, leaving questions about her status in professional tennis unanswered.
It remains uncertain whether she will bid farewell to tennis altogether or how she intends to compete in pickleball – whether it be in doubles, mixed doubles, or singles.
Bouchard’s career as a professional tennis player reached its pinnacle in 2014, marked by her impressive run to the Wimbledon final and notable semifinal appearances in the Australian and French Opens. During that period, she achieved a remarkable fifth-place ranking in the world.
However, in recent years, Bouchard has encountered a series of challenges and struggles on the tennis court. Presently, she holds the 215th position in the WTA tour rankings, with a season record of nine wins and nine defeats.
Pickleball’s popularity is on the rise, and the PPA tour, established in 2018, now boasts a calendar of 25 tournaments annually, spanning 14 different states.
Although the prize money in pickleball pales in comparison to the world of tennis, the most substantial purse available stands at approximately $300,000 USD.
Eugenie Bouchard, originally hailing from Westmount, Quebec, currently resides in the sunny state of Florida.
