On Sunday, the Yankees received an unexpected assist from a fan, leading to a moment of shared enjoyment for everyone present.
In the sixth inning of the Yankees’ 6-1 victory over the Astros, Houston’s slugger Yordan Alvarez sent a fly ball towards left field, where rookie Everson Pereira positioned himself for a catch. However, the play was disrupted by a Houston fan who reached over the railing, attempting to make the catch.
The interference resulted in the fan being called out, granting the Yankees the final out of the inning.

ESPN seized the opportunity to conduct a memorable interview with the fan.
“I’m here with my son; this is our very first game. We just relocated to Houston in January, and I wanted to create a special moment for him. As a father, I believe it’s my duty to give him the best experiences,” the fan explained, with his arm draped around Buster Olney.
He continued, “I apologize to the Astros organization. You have to understand, when the ball is coming down, it appears to be coming directly to you. So I reached out, and instinct took over. But we did have a wonderful moment.”
Naturally, some Astros fans in the vicinity had questions about the incident.
“The reaction was a mix of shock, disgust, happiness, sweat, and even a touch of excitement, maybe,” the fan admitted. “I was a bit shaken for my fingers; they’re still hurting a bit. The ball feels much heavier with gravity.
“Truth be told, Houston loves me, and I love Houston. They can’t stop me from supporting the ‘asteroids.’ I salute the organization and their great staff for ensuring my well-being and my enjoyment of the game. They didn’t take it too seriously.”
