Olivia Dunne, an LSU gymnast and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, has offered financial advice to college athletes regarding NIL deals (Name, Image, and Likeness).
She suggests finding a trustworthy agent and avoiding hasty decisions. The new rules around NIL are unprecedented, so athletes should take their time and make informed choices. Seek professional guidance and carefully evaluate opportunities to align with long-term goals.
“I would say first and foremost, find a really good agent,” Livvy suggested. “That was the first thing I did. And just take your time. Don’t rush into anything. Don’t be in a rush to make a lot of money. Take your time because it’ll come.
“NIL is such an unprecedented area. At first, when it changed, nobody knew really what was going on. I didn’t. LSU didn’t, and other universities didn’t, and the brands didn’t know either. So, to just take your time and the money will be there.”
“Surround yourself with trustworthy people. That’s what I would say. I have my family, my coaches, my team, very trustworthy people. Make sure there’s people that aren’t going to use you for that money.
“For other athletes, especially, that are in college, I would say spend your money like a college student, put all that money away, invest it, and just spend it like a normal college kid.”
Olivia Dunne also emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with trustworthy people while managing money like a normal college student.
Dunne made her debut in the 2023 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in Puerto Rico. She boasts more than 4.1 million followers on Instagram, 85,000 followers on Twitter, and has racked up 7.4 million followers and more than 377 million likes on TikTok.
Dunne recently revealed that her most viral Instagram post was a snapshot of her prepping to mount the balance beam during practice, which amassed over 877,000 likes. Similarly, her TikTok videos regularly garnered over a million views, with her most viral post clocking in at a staggering 35.7 million views.
Despite accumulating more than 11.5 million followers on both platforms, Dunne finds it difficult to fathom how popular and far-reaching some of her posts may become.
