Somerville’s Dragon Pizza has recently gained internet fame after its owner engaged in a heated exchange with Barstool’s Dave Portnoy, resulting in a viral video where expletives flew and gestures were exchanged.
This fiery encounter between the Davis Square pizzeria owner and Portnoy has caused a surge in Yelp reviews for Dragon Pizza, even prompting an “Unusual Activity Alert” notice for the eatery…
As Portnoy famously declares, “One bite, everyone knows the rules!”
Portnoy has made a name for himself with his pizza reviews, where he samples slices from various pizzerias. However, in a recent pizza review, the user “stoolpresidente” found himself in a shouting match with the Dragon Pizza owner.
It all began with Portnoy critiquing the pizza’s flop and remarking that the intense parmesan flavor was a bit overwhelming. Ultimately, he rated the pizza a 6.4.

Moments later, the pizza shop owner confronted Portnoy, expressing his displeasure with the practice of passing judgment on a business based on just one bite.
Portnoy escalated his criticism, labeling the pizza as “subpar” and staunchly defending his role in supporting small businesses.
The owner returned, attempting to persuade Portnoy to vacate his filming spot on the sidewalk. The confrontation devolved into a profanity-laden argument, with both men exchanging insults, including comments about the size of the owner’s T-shirt.
On their Instagram, Dragon Pizza posted a cartoon depicting the pizza shop owner making an obscene gesture at Portnoy. Since Barstool Sports’ video was posted on Thursday, they have already begun selling T-shirts featuring this design.
Meanwhile, a paper plate affixed to the door of Dragon Pizza on Friday bore the message, “We are not discussing it. Orders only.”

Now, it appears Portnoy’s TikTok video was taken down due to a violation of the platform’s rules. Naturally, Portnoy vented his frustration on another social media platform.
My pizza review got taken down by Tik tok. Isnt this the way it always works? This crazy asshole picks a fight with me and I get accused of bullying. Not my fault he was a Fatzo wearing a shirt 6 sizes to small. Now I'll get a strike against my account pic.twitter.com/KKRNheuvRQ

In classic Portnoy fashion, he launched a spirited attack on the now-famous pizza owner.
If this is Dave’s strategy to restore Barstool’s prominence, he seems to be on the right track.
