It’s no secret that the NFL can be a ruthless environment, but one team took it to another level by wishing a player happy birthday just hours before releasing him.
On Monday morning, the Browns sent birthday wishes to veteran offensive guard Michael Dunn, only to let him go by early afternoon.
Although the Browns’ social media team may not be aware of the personnel decisions made by the general manager, their birthday tweet remains visible, highlighting the unfortunate timing of Dunn’s release.
“Join us in sending the happiest of birthday wishes to @MikeDunn4Real!” the team posted on X.

This incident has drawn criticism online, with users questioning why the team couldn’t wait a day or refrain from wishing him a happy birthday.

Some even compared it to a similar birthday release by the Green Bay Packers earlier in the offseason.
It’s hoped that Michael Dunn quickly finds a new opportunity, as this turn of events on his birthday is undoubtedly disheartening.
