According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, a Chiefs superfan named Xaviar Babudar has been indicted by a federal grand jury on 19 criminal charges in Kansas City.
Babudar, also known as “ChiefsAholic” on social media, gained notoriety among Chiefs fans for wearing a wolf costume to games.
The charges against him include armed bank robbery, bank theft, money laundering, and transporting stolen property across state lines.
ESPN reports that federal prosecutors believe Babudar laundered stolen money through Midwest casinos to fund his attendance at Chiefs games, both home and away.
Before his indictment, Babudar had been on the run since skipping a court appearance in March related to an alleged bank robbery in Oklahoma in December 2022.
However, in July, the Kansas City FBI announced his arrest.
Authorities believe Babudar is connected to a series of robberies and attempted robberies across multiple Midwestern states between March 2022 and December 2022, totaling over $800,000 in stolen money.
Babudar’s attorney, Matthew T. Merryman, has stated that the government’s indictment unfairly portrays his client. Merryman believes that Babudar’s innocence will be proven once all the facts are known, and he hopes that Babudar’s supporters, admirers, and the Chiefs Kingdom will see him in a positive light in the future.
“The government’s announcement today of its 19-count indictment provides an unfair and unjust portrayal of Xaviar,” his attorney Matthew T. Merryman said in a statement, via ESPN. “His legal team believes his innocence will ultimately be proven to the public and we are confident that once all of the facts are known that he will be redeemed in the eyes of his supporters, admirers and the Chiefs Kingdom.”
