Kirk Cousins has gained a surge in likability recently due to his appearance on Netflix’s “Quarterback” series, alongside Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota.
In a recent interview with KARE 11, Cousins further endeared himself by expressing his preference for local news over national news, surprising journalist Jana Shortal.
Despite Shortal pointing out that local news hasn’t always been kind to him, Cousins maintained his appreciation for its relative purity compared to the toxic nature of national news.
“I love local news,” Cousins said.
“It’s just – obviously, most news is kind of gone like this,” he added, pointing his hand in a downward motion. “It’s just toxic. And I feel like local news is still somewhat pure.”
Shortal then said, “Local news has not been nice to you for five years.”
Cousins said that was “OK.”
His comments elicited a heartfelt response from Shortal, who commended him.
“I don’t know. When I watch it, I just feel like at least some good quality news instead of just trying to incite people.”
Shortal responded, “Bless you, Kirk Cousins.”
Looking ahead, Cousins is entering a crucial season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Having signed a one-year contract extension last year, he is set to earn $35 million guaranteed in 2023. After that, he could become a free agent in 2024. Last season, Cousins had an impressive performance with the Vikings, recording 4,547 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes while leading the team to a 13-4 record.
Unfortunately, the team was eliminated in the wild-card round of the playoffs by the New York Giants.
