During an incident in 2022, Marquise Brown, wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, attempted to avoid receiving a ticket, but his excuse for endangering himself and others with his reckless driving fell short.
Recently released police footage has brought attention to Brown’s arrest for driving at a speed of 126 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Body cam footage obtained by TMZ shows Brown informing the Arizona Department of Public Safety officer that he was on his way to football practice while being apprehended.
“What the hell were you going that fast for?” the officer asked.
“Sorry, I was on my way to football practice, sir,” Brown could be heard saying, who was entering his first season in Arizona after being traded from Baltimore prior to the 2022 season.
“You know better than going that fast,” the officer said, to which Brown responded: “Yes, sir. I’m new here, sir.”
Brown pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of excessive speed and was initially facing a criminal charge.
The judge ultimately waived the $473 fine he was supposed to pay and credited Brown for time served. As Brown enters a contract year in 2023, his upcoming negotiations could have an impact on future wide receiver contracts.
In the 2022 season, Brown recorded 67 catches for 709 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games played.
