Aaron Blom finds himself in a precarious situation as he faces criminal charges linked to underage sports betting.
The Johnson County Attorney’s Office has officially filed a criminal complaint against Blom, a junior kicker, accusing him of tampering with records associated with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s inquiry into sports gambling.
According to USA Today, it is alleged that Blom utilized his mother’s identity to establish a DraftKings account. Court documents reveal that Blom’s mother consented to her son using her personal information for setting up these accounts, and Blom himself has admitted to placing bets while underage.
The complaint further outlines that Blom executed 170 mobile wagers through a DraftKings account under his control, amounting to over $4,400 in bets. During the time of the incident, Blom served as a backup kicker and had supposedly bet on the “under total points” for the 2021 Iowa-Iowa State football game, although he did not participate in the Hawkeyes’ 27-17 victory.

According to USA Today, the complaint alleges that Blom consistently placed bets using his personal iPhone from restricted areas on the University of Iowa campus that were not ordinarily accessible to the public. The tampering with records charge brought against Blom is classified as an aggravated misdemeanor and carries a potential prison sentence of up to two years.
The investigation is still ongoing and may lead to additional charges, as stated by the DPS in a released statement. Despite these circumstances, Blom has not been removed from the team at this time. In the 2022 season, Blom had limited playing time for Iowa and only made one out of three field goal attempts.
The Iowa team concluded their season with an 8-5 record.
