Makayla Perkins, the Arizona Coyotes social media director, didn’t make any friends in Kansas City after trashing Patrick Mahomes.
Last week, the Arizona Coyotes’ endeavors to construct a $2.3 billion arena hit a lull. The proposed entertainment district in Tempe, Arizona was rejected by voters by a wide margin.
Although there is still some hope, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman expressed skepticism regarding any potential reversal of Tempe’s ruling.
“The National Hockey League is terribly disappointed by the results of the public referendum regarding the Coyotes arena project in Tempe. We are going to review with the Coyotes what the options might be going forward.”
The announcement also sparked an unexpected Twitter argument, which is currently one-sided but should be monitored.
After learning about the Coyotes’ struggle in locking down a venue agreement, Mayor Quinton Lucas of Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes, the current NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP, utilized Twitter to invite them to Missouri.
Lucas was at it first thing Wednesday morning with this tweet:
“Good morning, KC, surrounds, and Gary Bettman.”
Mahomes tweeted this later in the afternoon, sort of piggybacking on what Lucas did earlier:
KC coyotes has a nice ring to it! @NHL what y’all think? @tmobilecenter

Makayla Perkins, the social media director for Phoenix Sports, was displeased by those tweets. She saw it as a chance to make an unwarranted and unimpressive comment targeting Mahomes’ brother, Jackson, and his legal problems.
“Maybe you should focus on keeping your little brother out of jail and less on our team.”
The way she defended her team was inappropriate, despite Mahomes simply suggesting that if they couldn’t find a home for them, they could come to K.C. instead.
Perkins didn’t stop there, as she changed her Twitter profile pic to this:
