According to sources, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has formally requested a trade before entering the final season of his rookie contract.
However, Colts owner Jim Irsay has made it clear that the team has no plans to trade Taylor, stating it as a certainty.
The trade request coincided with a meeting between Irsay and Taylor on the owner’s bus during practice. After the meeting, Irsay expressed that the team carries on, even if an individual player leaves, and emphasized his hope for a successful season with Taylor playing a significant role.
“If I die tonight and Jonathan Taylor is out of the league, no one’s gonna miss us,” Irsay told reporters after his meeting with Taylor, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. “The league goes on. We know that. The National Football (League) rolls on. It doesn’t matter who comes and who goes, and it’s a privilege to be a part of it.”
Irsay also mentioned there are no immediate plans for a contract extension for Taylor.
These developments prompted a reaction from Taylor’s agent, Malki Kawa, after Irsay tweeted about the running back market.

One thing we know for sure: Jonathan Taylor deserves to get PAID
He is the heart and soul of that Indianapolis offense and will be incredibly beneficial for rookie QB Anthony Richardson

Taylor’s current base salary for 2023 is $4.3 million, and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 draft, the 24-year-old Taylor has accumulated 3,841 rushing yards in 43 games with the Colts.
