Taylor Swift’s concert at Lumen Field created such energetic chaos that it resulted in seismic activity comparable to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
This seismic commotion drew parallels for Seattle residents to Marshawn Lynch’s memorable touchdown run against the Saints during the 2010 playoffs. Nevertheless, Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert managed to generate even more uproar. Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach revealed that the noise generated by Swift’s fans was twice as powerful as the legendary “Beast Quake” caused by Lynch.
“The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake’.
Via CNN:
“The primary difference is the duration of shaking,” Caplan-Auerbach explained. “Cheering after a touchdown lasts for a couple seconds, but eventually it dies down. It’s much more random than a concert. For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled the behavior. The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can drive into the ground and shake it.”
This realization puts Swift’s concerts into perspective, showcasing just how remarkable and captivating they can be.
As the upcoming NFL season approaches, the Seahawks will have the opportunity to match the seismic excitement of Swift’s concert, but it will undoubtedly be a difficult feat to accomplish.
