The Philadelphia 76ers have decided to shift their focus away from pursuing Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 76ers’ interest in acquiring George has cooled “significantly” in recent days. Instead, the team is gearing up to make bold moves in other areas during this offseason.
Paul George, who is currently 34 years old, stands at a pivotal point in his career with several options ahead of him.
He holds a player option valued at $48.8 million for the 2024-25 NBA season. This gives him the flexibility to either decline the option and enter the free agent market, opt in for another season with the Clippers, or negotiate a potential contract extension which could include requesting a trade.
The 76ers had been considered strong contenders for George as they aim to construct a championship-caliber team around Joel Embiid, their 30-year-old center.

This speculation gained traction after Embiid exchanged a suggestive glance with George during a segment discussing Philadelphia’s offseason strategies on ESPN’s NBA Countdown.
However, despite the initial interest, Philadelphia seems to be withdrawing from the chase for George.
The team, however, is not short on opportunities to bolster its roster. With Embiid as the only fixed contract for the 2024-25 season, the 76ers possess considerable flexibility.
Additionally, guard Tyrese Maxey, who has shown tremendous potential, is positioned to negotiate a significant contract as a restricted free agent.
As the offseason unfolds, the 76ers are set to actively seek other star players to complement the promising duo of Maxey and Embiid.
While the team is determined to enhance its lineup through signings or trades, it is becoming increasingly clear that Paul George will not be moving to Philadelphia in the foreseeable future.
The 76ers’ strategy points to exploring new avenues and opportunities, signaling a vibrant and potentially transformative offseason ahead.
