AJ Simon, a 2024 NFL draft prospect out of the University of Albany, has tragically passed away just a week before the NFL draft.
The University of Albany Football’s official X account posted a tribute to the 25-year-old Simon with a statement.
“The UAlbany football program was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Amitral ‘AJ’ Simon this morning. AJ was a tremendous young man and even better teammate throughout his time at UAlbany. He was a role model both on and off the field, serving as a pillar to this program over the last two years. He will be profoundly missed.”
Albany’s head coach Greg Gatusso also posted an emotional statement.
“Two joyous year coaching and becoming friends with AJ Simon. My prayers are dedicated to the Simon family. I love you AJ and will always have a special place in my heart for #8.”
According to reports from a DraftScout contributor, Simon was found dead on Wednesday night with the cause of death being a heart attack.
Simon had been preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft, and the defensive end had caught the attention of some scouts.
Simons had an impressive Pro Day performance and made a top-30 visit to the England Patriots.
Our condolences go out to the family, teammates, and friends of AJ Simon.
