The Los Angeles Angels recently decided not to trade Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani during the trade deadline.
This choice effectively prevented Ohtani from joining a team with a better chance of making the playoffs. Although the Angels initially believed they could reach the post-season, recent results have made that increasingly unlikely.
Coincidentally, the team’s poor performance began shortly after rapper Drake was spotted wearing a Shohei Ohtani jersey in public. While Drake is known to be a big fan of Ohtani, fans consider him to be bad luck for the teams he supports. To test this theory, we should examine the numbers. Since Drake appeared in Ohtani’s jersey
the Los Angeles Angels went on a big losing streak. Furthermore, Ohtani’s performance has suffered, going 2-12 with 7 strikeouts and 0 RBI.
This is unusual for Ohtani, who is considered one of the best two-way players in modern baseball history. He has picked up a little bit since that extended slump.
Drake has a history of unsuccessful bets and supporting losing teams, even losing $250,000 while betting on Nate Diaz last weekend.
Hopefully, the supposed “Drake Curse” is not real, and Ohtani will have the opportunity to break the MLB HR record.
