Has Eric Lewis committed an internet crime?
Earlier this week, a conspiracy theory surfaced on NBA Twitter involving referee Eric Lewis, who has been officiating in the league for 18 years. He was accused of operating a burner account under the name “blair cutliff” solely to defend himself and his calls.
NBA ref Eric Lewis has been outed as having a burner account (@CuttliffBlair). Lmaooo this is a momentous day. The account will surely be deleted soon so for the archives, the entirety of the account’s replies. All involving… yep, Eric Lewis. ?

Despite seemingly credible evidence being presented, those who have experienced false alarms in the past remain skeptical. Nonetheless, the NBA itself has taken notice and is conducting an investigation, according to Marc Stein’s report on Friday.
The NBA, I'm told, has opened an official review into Twitter activity unearthed this week with frequent mentions of veteran referee Eric Lewis.

Interestingly, the accused account tweeted that it was actually run by Eric’s brother, Mark, raising questions about its validity. In the end, it’s up to the NBA to determine the truth behind the conspiracy theory.
Lewis has previously made headlines for “favoring” the Celtics as his family appears to support them. In fact, the Celtics are reported to be 22-4 in games officiated by Lewis.
If you have a personal gain from a team winning you should never officiate that team’s game

If the burner account conspiracy theory does prove to be true, Lewis will very likely be fired by the NBA.
Lewis has not provided any comment on the matter, and it is unclear how long the investigation will take.
